1PSAT / SAT / ACT Preparation

With nearly 96% of colleges and universities placing importance on standardized test scores when considering applications for admission, it is imperative that high school students thoroughly prepare for these critical exams.

(Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test)

Ivy Test Prep recommends that high school sophomores and juniors take the PSAT (Preliminary SAT) because:

The PSAT provides an invaluable baseline for the SAT by assessing applied reasoning and problem-solving abilities in Critical Reading, Math, and Writing.

The PSAT is also known as the National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (NMSQT) because scores obtained on this test during students’ junior year in high school may qualify them for scholarships from the National Merit Scholarship Program.

3Importance of the SAT and ACT

The SAT is the most widely used college admission exam. It is designed to assess students’ academic readiness for college as well as predict the quality of students’ college performance by assessing applied reasoning and problem-solving skills in the areas of Critical Reading, Writing, and Math.

The ACT is a curriculum-based (rather than applied reasoning and problem-solving based) standardized test that consists of 4 multiple-choice tests in the areas of English, Mathematics, Reading, and Science, as well as an optional Writing Test.

Obtaining a high score on the SAT or ACT is important because:

It can determine entry into your child’s college of choice, especially if it is a top-tier university or college.

It may qualify him or her for a variety of merit scholarships.
